Venice Marco Polo Airport (IATA: VCE) is located on the Italian mainland 8.0 km (4.9 mi) north of Venice, Italy. The airport has been named after the Venetian traveller Marco Polo, whose book introduced Central Asia and China to Europeans.
A modern terminal was opened in 2002, but it is already at full capacity. Still, it handles all scheduled and charter flights, including some long-haul flights to North America and the Middle East. A number of budget airlines also use Marco Polo airport. In 2012, 8,188,455 passengers used the airport facilities. It is the fifth busiest airport in Italy.
